The Benefits of Establishing a Walking Routine
With the warmer weather finally here, now is the time to get outside and start a walking routine.
What I love about walking is that it’s the perfect low impact activity for midlife. It’s easy to do, low cost and has some pretty amazing benefits such as:
1). It’s a great total body workout
By adding in resistance equipment to your workout you can work both upper and lower body at the same time.
2). Improving your mood and warding off depression
There is nothing more powerful than walking in sunlight. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin which can help boost mood and make you feel calmer.
3). Boosting your Energy
Instead of reaching for sugary snacks or caffeine when the 3:00 pm slump hits, why not get outside and walk for at least 10 minutes a day. This is a sure way to increase your energy level (and save you some calories as well). I always feel so much more energized afterwards.
4). Finding Inspiration
I find that when walking alone, i can really focus my attention on what I truly want in life. It gets me in a positive frame of mind and inspires me to move forward with my personal and professional goals.
5). Regulates weight
This is the perfect activity if you have a desk job and sit for hours per day. The more you reduce the time you spend sitting and increase the time walking, the more weight you can lose or maintain what you have already lost.
6). Helps improve your relationships or find new ones
Walking with a buddy is a great way to catch up on each other’s lives or make a new friend who shares the same interests. We have a guest expert in our Member’s Club this month that talks all about this and provides a way to find one.
Also, walking with a significant other can strengthen your relationship and encourage you to talk about stuff you may be holding back on.
7). Keeps your body healthy
Walking is an amazing cardiovascular activity that can prevent or manage heart disease, lower blood pressure and prevent type 2 diabetes. .
So that was our 7 benefits for Establishing a Walking Routine. I hope you got value from this and if you need additional support with establishing your walking routine, I would love for you to join us in our Member’s Club where this month’s focus physical activity is all about establishing a walking routine.
